• Josep Miquel Jornet and Luis Carlos Cobo Rus receive a fellowship from "Obra Social la Caixa" to pursue their PhD in ECE at Georgia Tech. The fellowship is given personally by the King of Spain and his wife the Queen, on June 2009.

• Dr. Akyildiz receives the Georgia Tech Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Advisor Award (5k and a plaque) for his 20+ years service and dedication to Georgia Tech and producing outstanding PhD students. The award is sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Research and Innovation at Georgia Tech and will be presented at the Georgia Tech Faculty Staff Honors Luncheon on Wednesday, April 15, 2009.

• Dr. Akyildiz receives the 2009 ECE Distinguished Mentor Award by the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Honors Committee. This award is presented to a faculty member whose mentoring of junior faculty (in connection with teaching and research activities) over an extended period of time. He receives this awards ($1,000 check and a plaque) at a ceremony on April 22, 2009.

• Josep Miquel Jornet and Elias Chavarria receive the Colonel Oscar P. Cleaver Award from the School of ECE at Georgia Tech, for earning the highest score on the ECE preliminary exam in Spring 2009 and Fall 2008 respectively. They receive these awards ($1,000 check and a plaque) at a ceremony on April 22, 2009.

• Violetta Ravagnoli and Tommaso Melodia are now proud parents of two baby girls. MATILDE was born on April 2009, and joins her elder sister Ludovica.

• Cagri Gungor spent the summer (May-August 2006) at SIEMENS in New Jersey working on Wireless Multimedia Sensor and Actor Networks.

• Dr. Akyildiz was granted a patent with the number 7,058,027 for "Systems and Methods for Asynchronous Transfer Mode and Internet Protocol" in June 2006. The patent is based on the protocol independent error control (TurboLink product) in wireless systems. The original application was submitted to the USPTO in September 1999.

• Dario Pompili receives the 2005 RESEARCHER OF THE YEAR AWARD within the Broadband and Wireless Networking Lab.

• Tommaso Melodia receives the 2004 RESEARCHER OF THE YEAR AWARD within the Broadband and Wireless Networking Lab.
